Distribution Centre, Northminster Business Park, York

Introduction

Northminster applied for planning permission in 2021 to construct a new distribution centre for DPDgroup UK at Northminster Business Park. The permission was to construct a 59,250 sq ft purpose built distribution facility on 6.9 acres with associated new access road and landscaping on land to the south of Northminster Business Park.

The client was relocating after outgrowing their current base on Clifton Moor in order to meet the growing demand created by online shopping, a move accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new facility, which has the latest conveying and sortation technology, will serve the area from Northallerton to Scarborough, Hull, Selby and Wetherby and will employ 215 people.

Construction commenced on the 4th January 2022 and the building was handed over to the client on 14th October on time and to budget. The building provides a 41m by 117m distribution warehouse with offices and staff welfare facilities. There are 30 level access loading doors and 11 dock-level loading doors with secure yard providing parking for 15 HGV’s, 145 vans, 165 car parking spaces and 44 secure bicycle spaces.

The facility also provides charging facilities enabling the client to serve York city centre with electric only vehicles.
